What is that smell?

Could it be onion? garlic? What was in that container last? an entire Indian buffet of leftovers?
Sometimes our Tupperware containers, despite our most vigorous washing, still retain the odors of food items past...onion, garlic, spices and curries...even tomatoes can leave an odor behind.
Food odors may be removed by placing crumpled black and white newspaper in the container, sealing on the air-tight seal and leaving it to rest for 12 hours. After the rest, recycle the newspaper and wash out the bowl and seal with hot soapy water. Viola! No more wafting reminders of last week's dinner.
Particularly persistent odors, such as curries and spices, may alternatively be removed by rinsing the container with a 1 part vinegar to 2 parts cold water solution and letting the container air dry with the seal off.
To prevent setting in of odors, Tupperware containers should always be stored with the seals removed to allow for dry air circulation.
